can i use my gi bill for school and flight training reimbursment at the same time?

I am currently enrolled in a program of two kids with the post 11/09 GI Bill. Since I have converted from the right to use MGIB for flight training. the question is: Since I am using s? as 2 to? years of college I can use the money the year you spent to get my composite score? No commercial?

The GI will not pay for the Private Pilot certificate. (You have to have that before you get the commercial license)Once you have that (paying for it on your own) you are eligible for reimbursement for instrument rating and the commercial pilot certificate as they see it as advanced training towards EMPLOYMENT.

My understanding is that if you don’t have a PPL, then the answer is no unless you are enrolled in a “professional pilot” college degree program that includes flight training as part of the curriculum. If you are enrolled in a different type of degree program, you can still use GI bill funds to get a commercial pilot certificate but you must already have a Private Pilot certificate to be eligible for the funds. At least that’s how I think it works but I haven’t been through it myself. Either way, you can only do your flight training at a Part 141 “government approved” flight school as opposed to a Part 61 flight school, which is the type of flight school more commonly found at most airports. I’m not sure the full reasoning behind that because the training standards are the same, but to get Part 141 certification a flight school has to be in business at least 5 years, have a certain minimum hierarchy of management, and must use an approved training syllabus. Part 141 schools tend to be a bit more expensive, but that’s the price you pay if you want to use the GI Bill for flight training. Good luck.
