Amos mate, if have to ask those questions here, I would be wondering how you got a ppl in the first place.
Please let me know your home airport so I wont go near it.

    1. Yes, getting your instrument rating is one step to becoming a CFI.
    2. Instrument is VERY different from commercial and commercial is very different from CFI.
    3. It depends on how much money and time you have to invest. You need a minimum of 250 total hours to get your commercial license.
    4. The aviation industry does need CFIs. Their salaries vary widely so it’s not possible to mention a price range. People would hire you if you are qualified. Get your CFI and then send your name out.

    Good luck.

1.) Yes, you do need an instrument rating to get your CFI, and it’s also easier to get your instrument before your commercial.
2.) Commercial is not a breeze, but I think Instrument is the hardest to get initially.
3.) It’s theoretically possible, but you’ll be burned out, and you won’t actually have a good experience.
4.) CFIs are in high demand, pay rates range from $10-$20 per hour, depending on the location, size, and business of the flight school.

    1 I’m not sure about

2 Commercial is hard. Get a syllabus and see how hard the maneuvers are.

3 NO WAY. I finished my instrument in just over a summer.

4 They are, but they don’t make a lot, unless you’re running a flight school. Who cares about pay, you’re doing the thing you probably love the most, flying. No, you don’t need to be trained at a college, but it’s best cause you can knock all of em out while you’re there.

Yes, an instrument rating is a requirement (as is a commercial) to become a CFI. Commercial is more of a fine-tuning of your private skills. Instrument focuses on flying the plane solely with references to instruments, instrument approaches, and operation within the National Airspace system. If you have your CFI rating, you are hirable in many places, regardless of whether or not you trained there. CFI pay isn’t great – many people are doing the CFI gig as a time-builder while on their way to the majors. Most I know make in the area of $20/hour, if they’re associated with an FBO. Independents average $50/hour.
